DETROIT—Executives from Zeon Chemicals L.P., Dow Corning Corp. and the ACS Rubber Division are among the speakers at the Detroit Rubber Group's fall technical meeting.
The meeting will be held Nov. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at Pasquale's Restaurant, 31555 Woodward Ave., in Royal Oak, Mich. Registration will be begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon.
The program begins with Mark Jones of Zeon Chemicals discussing Zetpol 2001, a highly saturated HNBR elastomer with a modified structure. The polymer initially was developed for wet timing belt applications, but may have other additional uses that will be addressed.
Tom Ferrier of RT Instruments Inc. will speak on properties of polymer materials using thermal analysis with optical observation. Ferrier will present several studies demonstrating routine analysis enhanced by sample observation, as well as anomalies that only could be identified using sample observation.
Craig Gross of Dow Corning Corp. will talk about pushing the boundaries of fluorosilicone rubber, a silicone polymer backbone with fluorinated functional side groups that offers unique properties as well as challenges. Gross will discuss the challenges of the material and provide data demonstrating the advancements achieved to improve its thermal stability.
Shannon Bollin of Ford Elastomers Research will outline benefits, challenges and opportunities for green materials in elastomer compounds, incorporating bio oils in natural rubber, EPDM and SBR compounds.
Heather Maimone, the Rubber Division's membership manager, will close the program by discussing why it's beneficial to join the Rubber Division, the parent organization of the DRG.
Cost is $50 for non-original-equipment-manufacturer attendees, $25 for OEM attendees. All proceeds will go to the DRG scholarship fund.
Advance registration is encouraged. To register, contact Jim Eddy at [email protected].
