THE WOODLANDS, Texas—Huntsman Corp purchased Gomet a Azeglio, Italy-based producer of components for the automotive aftercare market, into its polyurethanes division, the firm said on Oct. 6.
Part of Rockwood Italia SpA, Gomet joined the PU division following Huntsman's purchase of several chemical businesses from Rockwood Holdings Inc. at the beginning of the month.
Located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, Gomet manufactures automotive products including protective boots for constant velocity joints; steering gaiters; dust covers; bounce bumpers and shock absorber service kits.
Within Huntsman PU, Gomet will operate alongside the division's existing automotive business, whose MDI-based technologies are used by many automotive manufacturers.
Working with original equipment manufacturers, the PU unit's global automotive team develops materials and systems to improve comfort, performance and safety in seating, armrest, door, instrument panel and under bonnet applications.
Gomet provides an impressive range of specialty molded components that are used in most European and many Asian vehicles, Huntsman PU President Anthony Hankins said
“The addition of Gomet will boost our existing automotive business, leading to the development of innovative new solutions for this dynamic and growing sector of the automotive after care market,” he said.
