WASHINGTON—Michelin North America Inc. has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a finding of inconsequential noncompliance regarding 889 Michelin Pilot Street Radial replacement motorcycle tires.
The tires—sizes 110/70 R17 54H, 130/70 R17 62H and 140/70 R17 66H—were manufactured at the Michelin plant in Phrapradaeng, Thailand, between Aug. 12, 2012 and Dec. 21, 2013, Michelin said.
The tires are marked as having polyamide tread and sidewall plies instead of polyester, Michelin told NHTSA. But they contain the correct number of reinforcing plies, the tire makers said. Michelin noted that the agency previously granted petitions of inconsequential noncompliance for similar errors by other tire makers.
