NORTH BROOKFIELD, Mass.—A high-ranking member of the Department of Defense recently visited Quabaug Corp., the U.S. manufacturing partner of Vibram USA.
Mark Harnitchek, defense logistics agency director vice admiral, and his senior staff visited the firm, which manufactures high-performance soling products for all branches of the U.S. military.
Harnitchek oversees the acquisition and supply of commodities, clothing, textiles and other equipment for the DoD. He met with Quabaug CEO Kevin Donahue and Vibram Vice President Bill Ells during his visit, which occurred on Sept. 11, the 13-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center.
“We appreciate Vice Admiral Harnitchek's interest in learning more about the products manufactured in North Brookfield that directly support our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines,” Ells said in a news release. “Every man and woman who serves our nation in the military wears a Vibram sole, and we are pleased to reaffirm our commitment to the Armed Services, especially on today's solemn anniversary.”
Harnitchek received an overview of the products manufactured in North Brookfield, including soling for combat boots, military dress shoes, jungle boots, and the new domestically manufactured athletic training shoes. He also toured the manufacturing plant and company development laboratories.
After the tour, Harnitchek addressed a gathering of Quabaug employees, including a large number of military veterans.
Located in North Brookfield, Quabaug employs 250 and manufactures Vibram shoe soling, rubber surfacing, disc golf products and shoe repair products.
Vibram USA, of Concord, Mass., is a subsidiary of Vibram S.p.A., which is headquartered in Italy. Vibram produces soles for outdoor, recreational, work and fashion footwear. It said it is the only U.S. manufacturer to provide soling products to all branches of the U.S. Military.
