Dow Corning Corp. will unveil the latest addition to its Syl-Off Advantage Series of solventless silicone release technologies at Labelexpo Americas 2014, Sept. 9-11. This release coating is designed to promote reliable high-speed/high-volume production in ultra-flat release systems, according to the company. Dow Corning said also it will be featuring its Syl-Off SL 35 Release Modifier.

The Syl-Off Advantage Series release coatings have been designed to enable label manufacturers to reduce system costs, increase converting speeds without impacting quality and use release liners constructed of new filmic and paper materials with thinner gauges. Dow Corning said the Syl-Off family of products significantly lowers platinum usage, enables fast coating speeds and supports a wider range of substrates.

The company's Syl-Off SL 35 Release Modifier offers tight release at very low platinum levels with superior stability and shelf life. It optimizes the potential of Dow Corning's Syl-Off Advantage Series solventless systems to give customers the best results in both quality control and cost savings. It is suitable for use in the manufacturing of pressure-sensitive label stock, single- and double-sided release papers, liners for adhesive tapes and other coatings for sticky materials, Dow Corning said.

Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials will introduce a portfolio of tire label materials designed to boost brand image and ensure tracking ability at Labelexpo Americas, Sept. 9-11.

First in the portfolio is the Point-of-Purchase Tire Label, Avery Dennison said, which features a film and adhesive construction with production-friendly gum patterns that increase conversion speeds.

The POP label material incorporates a special back coating on the polypropylene film, which resists the migration of low molecular-weight components and carbon black from the tire surface, the company said. The barrier prevents materials from bleeding through the surface of the label, maintaining outstanding print quality and brand appeal, according to the firm.

The POP tire label materials are qualified at several global tire end users, Avery Dennison said, enabling converters to gain new business with tire manufacturers.

As brands serialize their tires for tracking and safety reasons, the label material can be applied during the final stages, and, once applied, is well integrated and resistant to water and gasoline, the company claimed.

Mitchell Inc. unveiled its Model 482 Safety Rubber Grinder with improvements in the areas of safety and ease of use, with the new Model 482 replacing the older Model 48 Grinder.

Improvements include servo controls on the carriage that eliminate the manually adjusted limit switches for the start and stop positions of the carriage. Mitchell said they are now controlled on the Allen Bradley Touch Screen HMI. With a Servo controlled carriage, the grinding wheel retreats safely behind a guard at the end of the grinding cycle, greatly improving safety for the machine operator. Servo controls also replace the manually operated slide adjustment of the grinding wheel, which allows for the finished diameter to be set on the touch screen.
