ORLANDO—Apollo Vredestein B.V. exhibited its new Wintrac xtreme high-performance winter tire at the International Tire Exhibition & Conference for Tire Dealers and Auto Service Professionals in Orlando Aug. 20-22.
The first tire to be developed in collaboration with Giugiaro Design, the Wintrac xtreme features a W-shaped tread with firm, aggressive lines and an innovative sipe technology, according to Vredestein. Optimum Silica Processing technology was used for the tread compound, enhancing winter performance and wet traction and minimizing the chance for aquaplaning, the company said.
The Wintrac xtreme is available in H, V and W speed ratings, making it a true high-performance winter tire with good course stability and steering precision as well as low noise levels, Vredestein said. It also has run-flat capabilities and can operate under pressure loss at speeds of up to 50 mph, it said.
The Wintrac xtreme is available in more than 40 different sizes in diameters ranging from 15 to 20 inches, according to Vredestein. The tire became available in the U.S. in June 2014, said Emil Herbek, president of the North American market for Apollo Vredestein.
