Master Bond Inc.'s 28-page catalog for applications in the aerospace industry.

Editor's Note: Each week, Rubber & Plastics News will take a look at some of the rubber industry's new products and innovations on www.rubbernews.com. Does your company have a new product or new innovation? To be considered for inclusion in this recurring feature, email [email protected]

Master Bond Inc. is offering a 28-page catalog with performance and processing data on its line of epoxies, silicones, UV curing compounds and specialty systems for the aerospace industry.

These products ensure reliability in the assembly of aircraft structures, components, interiors and MRO applications, Master Bond said, and are used widely for structural bonding, sealing and gap filling.

These adhesive, sealant and coating systems feature performance properties including toughness, high temperature resistance, cryogenic serviceability, thermal/electrical conductivity and bond strength to both similar and dissimilar substrates, the company said. Specific grades are halogen-free, meet NASA low outgassing specifications and are UL 94V-0 rated for flame retardancy, Master Bond claimed.

This catalog is available for immediate download in PDF format or in print. It can be requested here.

Elastocon TPE Technologies Inc.'s 8055 Series of TPEs is used in products where additional weight is required, such as traffic cones.

Elastocon TPE Technologies Inc. has added two weighted high density grades to its rubber-like 8055 Series of TPEs.

Applications for this weighted TPE grades include anywhere where natural rubber has been used in products where additional weight is required, including garbage disposal drain plugs, traffic cones, fishing products, straps and other sports and leisure products.

Elastocon said other key applications range from flying sports discs to medical devices owing to its x-ray opaque capabilities. Elastocon also said its price for the TPE was competitive, starting at less than $2 a pound.

The easily colorable additions to the 8055 Series of general purpose TPEs offer properties with a Shore A hardness of 55 (1.6 g/cc) and 65 (1.8.9 g/cc), depending on the grade selected, the company said. The TPEs are weighed for applications where higher density performance and strength are required or desired in addition to considerable scratch and mar resistance. They are available in small to large quantities from the firm's midwestern production facilities.

Wacker Chemie A.G. is expanding its product range with Elastosil RT 728, a liquid silicone rubber for the production of automotive gaskets.

Wacker Chemie A.G. is expanding its product range wit Elastosil RT 728, a liquid silicone rubber for the production of automotive gaskets.

Molded parts made from silicone are resistant to heat and coolant, Wacker said, and exhibit low compression set even under permanent stress. Car radiators and cooling-system components can be reliably sealed, the company said, and Elastosil RT 728 can be injection molded or mechanically dispensed straight onto the part to be sealed.

Elastosil RT 728 has been developed for the production of fluid- and heat-resistant gaskets for the automotive industry, Wacker said, and the liquid silicone is characterized by high coolant resistance.

Gaskets made from Elastosil RT 728 exhibit no more than 30 percent compression set after 1,000 hours in coolant at a temperature of 105°C and after 1000 hours at 125°C, the permanent deformation is still less than 65 percent as soon as the stress is removed, the company claimed.

The elastomer's high resilience delivers constant contact pressure and optimum leak tightness in the seal groove, Wacker said, and even long-term stress has little effect on the overall property profile of Elastosil RT 728. Vulcanizates of the liquid silicone meet delivery specifications of leading car manufacturers concerning gaskets for use in engine cooling systems, the company said.

Elastosil RT 728 supports cost-efficient series production of parts by injection molding. Additionally, the liquid silicone can be applied by dispensing equipment straight onto the part to be sealed, Wacker said. Its shear-thinning properties can be applied by dispensing equipment and is self-adhesive.
