    Scigrip Smarter Adhesive Solutions.

Editor's Note: Each week, Rubber & Plastics News will take a look at some of the rubber industry's new products and innovations on www.rubbernews.com. Does your company have a new product or new innovation? To be considered for inclusion in this recurring feature, email [email protected]

Scigrip Smarter Adhesive Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of IPS Corp., has released an advanced methacrylate adhesives that the company said delivers durable bonding of metal, composite and plastic substrates.

Scigrip offers a series of innovative, low VOC methacrylate adhesives that enable quicker, more economical and less labor intensive assembly operations than mechanical joining methods or welding techniques, according to Scigrip.

Structural adhesives have become integral to manufacturing modern automobiles, airplanes, buses, trains and trailers, Scigrip said, due to the enhanced performance, reduced costs and improved aesthetics that they enable in creating a durable bond between dissimilar substrates.

Scigrip's methacrylate structural adhesives are available in several product series, with a variety of curing times, from products that set in as little as 4 to 6 minutes for relatively small applications, or as long as 15 to 40 minutes for more complicated assemblies requiring precise positioning, the firm said.

    The series include:

    • Scigrip's SG300 series methacrylate adhesives exhibit a balance of strength and durability for bonding metals, composites, and other plastic parts, Scigrip said. SG300 Series products are often used to replace or reduce the need for mechanical fasteners, so they can reduce noise and vibration levels and enhance the overall joint durability, according to the company.

    • The advanced SG600 series adhesives from Scigrip combine high strength, modulus and elongation characteristics needed for bonding a range of metals, thermoplastics and thermoset composites. This series is ideal for a wide range of substrates, including: acrylic, ABS, coated metals, PVC, thermoset composites (epoxy, gelcoats, polyester and vinyl ester), Scigrip said.

    • Scigrip claims its SG5000 series methacrylate adhesives deliver high performance structural bonding for composites and metals that rival traditional two-part epoxy adhesives. The SG5000 Series adhesives can be used to bond polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy and gel coated composites, as well as most metals and thermoplastics, with little surface preparation or priming.

Ashby Cross Co.'s Dyna-Stat Dynamic Mix & Dispense Valve.

Ashby Cross Co. has unveiled its Dyna-Stat Dynamic Mix & Dispense Valve, which is electrically driven and combines adjustable high-shear mixing with disposable mixer chambers that eliminate the need for a solvent flush cycle.

Ashby Cross said this valve is ideal for two component, low to medium viscosity mixing and is adaptable to most meter-mix systems. It can be configured in a dual-mode, which combines a high-shear premix blade with standard disposable static mixers.

The product is available with an electronic console that includes a speed control, which allows up to 5,000 RPM rotation, depending upon viscosity, the firm said. The Dyna-Stat Dynamic Mix & Dispense Valve provides repeatability and is offered in four mixer sizes. An air injector port is included to develop the cell structure in urethane foam applications, and it can be used as an in-line blending system for multi-component materials, the company said.

Dyna-Stat Dynamic Mix & Dispense Valve is available on all Ashby Cross meter, mix systems and can be field-retrofit to existing systems.

Deublin Co.'s product line of multi-passage soft-seal rotating unions.

Deublin Co. has unveiled a product line of multi-passage soft-seal rotating unions.

Rotating unions are components in a broad range of equipment applications that require connection between stationary supply lines, Deublin said, and rotating equipment including cylinders, rolls, spindles and clutches.

While rotating unions are used to convey all types of liquid or gas—steam, water, coolant, hydraulic or cutting fluids, inert gas or vacuum. Multi-passage rotating unions are used when more than one media must be conveyed simultaneously using different passages. Soft-seal refers to the Plastomeric seal technology, which is a combination of plastic and elastomer, Deublin said, with a proprietary chemistry and geometry that differs by application.

Applications for Deublin multi-passage soft-seal unions include: machine tools, ladle turrets used in steel continuous casting, and metal coil winding, plastic and rubber manufacturing and more, the company said.

Deublin offers standard, semi-custom and custom options depending on the requirements of each application. Standard features include 2-8 passages, while custom passages for the largest applications can be 22 or more. Port types include NPT, BSP, or SAE.
