MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio—Universal Polymer & Rubber Ltd. has acquired Universal Rubber and Plastics Corp. and completed an expansion at its Middlefield plant.
It purchased Tallmadge, Ohio-based URP, a producer of custom extruded rubber products using microwave cure technology, for an undisclosed amount. URP also has a significant die cut unit.
Universal Polymer made the deal to broaden its product line and add a die cut operation to its growing business.
URP has a work force of 22 who work out of the firm's plant in Tallmadge. The employees and the factory will be retained, said Joe Colebrook Jr., president and CEO of Universal Polymers.
The transaction closed July 14.
Universal Polymer also expanded its plant in Middlefield another 36,000 square feet, bringing the size of the facility to about 125,000 square feet.
It built the addition because the firm needed more warehouse space, a cold room and a tool die room, Colebrook said.
