AMTALA, India—Wacker A.G. has opened a logistics facility with a capacity of 5,000 pallet spaces at its production site in Amtala.
Wacker said it invested more than $1.36 million in the new facility.
Wacker Metroark Chemicals Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture between Wacker and Kolkata-based Metroark Pvt. Ltd., will operate the facility.
Wacker said the new center compliments WMC's existing network of warehouses throughout India, located in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
“This investment will strengthen our growth opportunities in India,” said Christian Hartel, president of Wacker's silicones business division. “Therefore, the warehouse has more capacity than we will use currently.”
Hartel said the new facility will help maximize flexibility of logistics, increase delivery speed and minimize lead times for customers.
WMC is headquartered in Kolkata and is responsible for production, marketing and sales activities for Wacker's silicone products in India. Wacker owns a 51 percent share of the joint venture, which was established in 1998.
