EAST LANSING, Mich.—More than 1,000 pounds of salmon and trout are expected to be caught during the 36th annual Michigan Rubber Group Fishing Derby. The fishing fundraiser will be held July 25 at Grand Haven, Mich.
Last year, 32 fishermen caught almost 1,400 pounds of fish, while 25 fishermen caught more than 1,000 pounds of fish in 2012, according to the Michigan Rubber Group.
The MRG has a limited number of rooms available at the Holiday Inn Spring Lake; the code for the discount is Michigan Rubber Group Code EG1. Other hotels are also located nearby.
Registration/check-in is at Chinook Pier, located at 301 North Harbor Drive, Grand Haven, from 5 to 5:45 a.m. Cost is $175 per person. Boats will leave the dock at 6 a.m.
Fishing licenses are available at the dock. Prizes will be awarded for largest salmon and largest trout. A luncheon will be held after the return from fishing at noon and will include a 50/50 raffle, awards and door prizes.
The MRG uses proceeds from the fishing outing for several purposes, particularly the funding of scholarships and MRG technical meeting attendance for students from the Ferris State University Rubber technology program.
The MRG is seeking corporate donations, and any gifts will be awarded to fishing winners or used as door prizes. Boat sponsorships are available for $100 per boat and will include a banner with sponsor logo.
One person from each group or boat should be a member of the MRG in good standing. Dues are $15 and should be included with your registration if you are not currently a paid member of the MRG.
Entry forms and further information are available from Ryan Snyder, fishing outing chair, at 269-567-0514 or [email protected].
