WASHINGTON—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has selected six universities as its academic partners for the 2014 Toxic Release Inventory University Challenge.
The universities tapped for this year's TRI University Challenge are Drew University; Southeastern Louisiana University; the State University of New York at Plattsburgh; Tennessee State University; the University of California-Los Angeles; and the University of South Carolina, the EPA said.
For more than 25 years, the TRI University Challenge has brought the EPA together with academic institutions to find innovative ways to increase public awareness of toxic chemicals in communities around the U.S., the agency said.
The EPA will work this year with the six selected universities to develop practical, replicable projects focused on data visualization and analytics for improving the presentation and understanding of TRI data, the agency said.
