KENT, Ohio—Kent Elastomer Products Inc. received two Encouraging Environmental Excellence Silver Awards from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The firm received environmental stewardship awards at its corporate headquarters in Kent and its processing and assembly operation in Winesburg, Ohio.
Kent Elastomer said it was honored based on its efforts to identify energy savings and ways to purchase equipment and components to reduce energy. It said it minimized waste in areas like lighting, compressed air and chilled water.
The firm significantly curtailed the amount of refuse sent to landfills by reducing, reusing and recycling any extra byproducts from its daily operations. Kent Elastomer said its Kent and Winesburg locations reduced refuse pickups by 63 percent and 90 percent.
“We stepped up to the plate environmentally several years ago with no intention of winning awards,” Kent Elastomer President Bob Oborn said. “We simply wanted to do a better job of minimizing waste and reducing energy consumption. To be honored by the Ohio EPA is exciting for this company and a tribute to the perseverance of our employees. They made it possible for us to reach some fairly lofty goals.”
Kent Elastomer manufacturers tubing and dip-molded products for the medical, food and beverage, and sports and leisure markets, among other industries.
