WASHINGTON—Alliance Tire Americas Inc. is recalling 286 14-17.5 ML Alliance 239 tires because they are missing essential sidewall markings.
The tires are built for use on mining, logging and industrial equipment and are approved for restricted highway use at speeds up to 55 mph, Alliance told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The tires lack tire identification numbers, loads and inflation amounts, according to Alliance. This lack of information could cause drivers to overfill or overload the tires, resulting in blowouts and crashes, the tire maker said.
Alliance will replace the tires free of charge. The tire maker said it would begin notifying customers in June 2014. Until then, tire owners may contact Alliance's customer service department at 800-343-3276.
