WASHINGTON—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has scheduled 20 online training sessions on how to use its new recall reporting web portal, including one specifically for tire manufacturers.
Beginning in August 2014, NHTSA will require tire, auto and auto parts manufacturers to submit recall reports and related documents through a web-based Internet portal, the agency said in a May 27 Federal Register notice.
“Through this portal, manufacturers will not only file new reports, but will update and amend those reports, file quarterly reports on the progress of their recall campaigns, submit copies of representative communications they issue to owners and dealers, and conduct a host of other routine filings and communications,” NHTSA said.
NHTSA will host the training sessions between July 28 and Aug. 8. The specialty session for tire manufacturers is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Eastern time.
Other specialty sessions are scheduled during the period for manufacturers of passenger vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, equipment and child restraints. General sessions are scheduled for the mornings of July 28-31 and Aug. 7-8 between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Eastern, and the afternoons of Aug. 1 and Aug. 4-6 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Eastern.
To register for one or more of the sessions, send an email to [email protected], listing the first and last names of participants, your company name and address, desired dates and times, and alternate dates and times in case your first choice is full. The registration deadline is July 25, which is also the approximate date that NHTSA will send access instructions to registered participants.
