Huber Engineered Materials, a division of J.M. Huber Corp., launched ReCal platinum calcium carbonate for use as a component in building materials to generate various green building credits and in other demanding applications where certified post-consumer content is required.

Huber said ReCal Platinum is 50 percent by weight post-consumer content (third-party verified) with the remaining 50 percent post-industrial content (third-party verification pending) produced by a proprietary re-milling process (patent pending).

It is a light gray color milled to a consistent median particle size and topcut. Two ReCal Platinum Calcium Carbonate products are offered—ReCal Platinum 8 and ReCal Platinum 20—which are milled to an 8- and 20-micron median particle size, respectively.

Master Bond Inc. unveiled Master Bond UV15-42C, a specially-formulated UV curable system for bonding, sealing and coating applications. This smooth paste can be applied vertically without sagging. As an optically clear compound, it is often used in the fiber-optic, optical, electronic, aerospace and specialty OEM industries.

This one-part system bonds well to a wide variety of substrates, Master Bond said, including glass, metals, composites, rubbers and most plastics. Adhesion to acrylic and polycarbonates is exceptional, the company claimed. UV15-42C features a tensile strength of 5,000-6,000 psi and a tensile modulus of 250,000-300,000 psi at room temperature. Its toughness enables it to withstand thermal cycling as well as mechanical shock, said Master Bond. UV15-42C is also resistant to chemicals such as water, oils, cleaning agents, acids and bases.

It cures in 10 to 30 seconds upon exposure to a UV light source emitting a 320-365 nm wavelength with an energy output of 20-40 milliwatts/cm2. UV15-42C is not oxygen inhibited and will cure in thicknesses up to ¼ inch. This electrically insulative, dimensionally stable system has low shrinkage upon curing.

UV15-42C is serviceable from -65°F to +300°F and is available for use in syringes and cartridges. It can be purchased in one-half pint, pint and quart containers.

3M Co. introduced improvements to its high performance acrylic adhesive 200MP. Enhancements to the product's liner technology are raising the standard of performance for its adhesive family, 3M said, used in bonding to metal and high surface energy plastics (higher than 37 dynes/cm), with improvements in sustainability and liner technology. Its applications range from ATMs, vehicle dashboards, appliance panels and trackpad bonding.

Manufacturing for this industry-standard adhesive always has used a solventless process, producing a pressure sensitive adhesive that bonds on contact without the introduction of solvents.

3M recently announced its industrial adhesives and tapes division tape constructions made with high performance acrylic adhesive 200MP. 3M said this eliminates solvents from its liner production.

Many 3M adhesive transfer tapes and 3M double coated tapes, including products using adhesive 200MP are made without gold, tantalum, tin or tungsten.

The high shear strength of Adhesive 200MP brings substantial benefits to users, 3M said, including less adhesive oozing at slitting and die-cutting, helping to improve rapid part processing with minimal waste. Finished graphics are neat and clean thanks to edges less likely to ooze and collect dirt. For converters, the product's better roll aging and storage stability help to minimize edge picking and waste.
