WADSWORTH, Ohio—Goldsmith & Eggleton L.L.C. has completed a four-phase improvement program at its Wadsworth plant that includes the addition of new machinery and upgrade of other equipment.

Basically, it's “a complete retooling of our masterbatch line with facility upgrades,” according to Rob Eggleton, business manager, Elastomers-Reprocessed Channel Prime Alliance, the Iowa-based sales and customer service arm of Goldsmith & Eggleton.

Earlier this year, the firm moved its sales and customer support operation to Channel Prime Alliance to give the company a stronger sales force and world-class customer service and technical support operation, a spokesman said.

The addition of a new F-270 internal mixer; automated carbon black handling systems; oil injection, 84-inch utilized mill; chiller/cooler tower; and installation of a 24-inch by 48-inch inclined calender, along with improved air filtration were key parts of the black masterbatch improvement program, he said.

An extensive upgrade was needed, the spokesman said, for improved product consistency, to increase capacity and for additional product options.

“Goldsmith & Eggleton is committed to the rubber industry with a continued investment in our manufacturing facility and our people,” Eggleton said.

In a little more than four years, the improvement project marks the second extensive upgrade at the Wadsworth-based firm, which was purchased by Ravago Holdings America in August 2012.

In November 2009, it finalized the third and final phase of an improvement program in its mill room.

That upgrade included installation of a water cooling tower to help cool the firm's water supply, which feeds the mill room, and the addition of an internal mixer and mills to provide better manufacturing quality, consistency and control, the spokesman said.

It also added a spare parts program for all critical components used on the mixer, a mill and all auxiliary equipment.

Since 1968, when Goldsmith & Eggleton was formed, the company has continued to evolve as a leader in the manufacture of masterbatches, he said.

The firm also is a full service distributor, trader of synthetic rubber polymers and a producer of reprocessed elastomers.
