Laur Silicone Inc. has released its Laur FR-21XX and FR-31XX series, which are materials designed specifically to meet the need for stringent flame inhibition requirements of JL 94 V-0. The FR-21XX and FX-31XX series of materials are built to be cost effective, Laur said, while maintaining flame retardancy.

The flame retardant properties are achieved using innovative technology without the need of polybrominated diphenyl ethers, hexabromocyclodecane addictives, nor other brominated compounds. These silicone rubber compounds are characterized by moderate tensile strength, tear strength and good heat aging properties. They are expected to retain physical properties up to 392 degrees Farenheit.

Reduction Engineering Scheer, redesigned its line of pultrusion strand pelletizers, launching the LFT Pultrusion Pelletizer, a high-speed series accompanied by an extensive range of enhancements.

Reduction Engineering Scheer said the LFT Pultrusion Pelletizer delivers twice the rotational cutting speed of previous models, operating at 1200 rpm and allowing for higher linear velocity, while not sacrificing performance.

The LFT Pultrusion Pelletizer is available in eccentric and push/pull designs, Reduction Engineering Scheer said, and the eccentric model adjusts the rotor to the bed knife while the push/pull model adjusts the bed knife support to the rotor. The eccentric model has a redesigned ring gear adjustment that allows for precision adjustment and easier accessibility, according to the company.

Meanwhile, the rotor on the push/pull version features a load isolator mechanism that reduces sheer load away from the rotor bearing and allows for cooler operation.

Reduction Engineering Scheer offers five commercial models in cutting widths ranging from 12-in to 32-in and a laboratory model for one to two strands.

Otech Corp. has improved the design of two custom thermoplastic elastomer compounds by releasing its OTE2089, a thermoplastic olefin compound used in the manufacturing of recoil pads.

Otech said the pads, which are most commonly used in competition rifles and sporting goods firearms, has been developed to exhibit exceptional shock absorption properties as well as a good compression set. The OTE2089 can also be used for sporting goods consumers because it has the look and feel of vulcanized rubber, but it is lighter weight.

Otech also released its OTR 7019, a formula designed specifically for the manufacturing of car mats. Otech said the compound improvements increase car mat abrasion resistance by 50 percent, but still has flexibility.
