WASHINGTON—Friday, March 7 is the deadline to enter the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Transportation Safety Awards.
The program, now in its second year, features four awards recognizing outstanding safety records: the Best Fleet Awards, Pacesetter Awards, Driver of the Year Award and the ISRI Golden Wrench Award.
"The Transportation Safety Awards reflect the value and importance that the industry places on vehicle and driving safety," said Commodor Hall, ISRI's transportation safety manager.
"By recognizing the top performers in the field, both at the company and individual levels, we are raising the bar for the entire industry. We look forward to another year of highly competitive entries."
ISRI said the Best Fleet Awards will be presented to the ISRI member with both the lowest vehicle accident rate and the lowest DOT severity rate for calendar year 2013 in each of four classes, determined by size. The Pacesetter Awards will be granted to the ISRI member with the best 36-month accident record in each of four classes, determined by size.
The Driver of the Year Award will go to the commercial vehicle driver with the best 20-year driving record, with the minimum qualification being no at-fault accidents during the driver's entire career. The winner will receive $500, a trophy and leather jacket, and a trip to ISRI2014.
