Butyl rubber has been used for many years in tire curing bladder formulations in combination with phenol formaldehyde resin cure in order to meet the demanding service conditions that the bladder undergoes during the tire vulcanization process. Traditionally, butyl rubber with a typical unsaturation value of about 1.85 mol percent has been the preferred grade for use in curing bladder applications.
