BOSTON—A joint committee of the Massachusetts legislature has canceled a hearing scheduled for Jan. 22 to consider a tire aging bill, because of bad weather.
House Bill No. 3016 would reinstate periodic vehicle safety inspections in Massachusetts. It contains a provision that would require vehicle inspectors to automatically fail any car or light truck that had one or more tires more than six years of age according to tire identification numbers.
Representatives of the Rubber Manufacturers Association were scheduled to appear at the hearing to testify against the bill. The Tire Industry Association and the New England Tire & Service Association also oppose it.
There was no word on whether the hearing would be rescheduled.
