WASHINGTON—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has granted BMW of North American L.L.C.'s petition for inconsequential noncompliance over mismarked tire placards in 1,409 BMW X3 SAV multipurpose passenger vehicles.
The vehicles in question were manufactured between April 1, 2011 and March 14, 2012, BMW told NHTSA. The certification labels on the vehicles do not contain the information on the tires and rims installed as original equipment.
BMW said this error did not merit a formal recall because there are alternate sources of information for drivers to find the correct tire sizes and pressures for the vehicles. These include the tires themselves and the owners' manuals, the auto maker said.
