WASHINGTON—Hankook Tire American Corp. has asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a decision of inconsequential noncompliance regarding incorrect sidewall markings on approximately 6,257 Hankook Roadhandler Sport tires.
The tires were manufactured between June 21 and Aug. 29, 2013, Hankook told NHTSA. Because of a mold labeling error, the sidewall markings incorrectly describe the number of plies in the tires' tread areas. The markings say the tires have two nylon plies, when in fact they only have one.
The tires otherwise meet all federal safety standards and will not be compromised as to performance or safety because of the marking errors, Hankook said.
NHTSA gave interested parties until Jan. 9 to comment.
