AKRON—Goodyear unveiled its Goodyear Ultra Grip 8 Performance for the upcoming winter season.
Features of the Ultra Grip 8 Performance include a directional tread design that helps channel water away from the tread surface, Goodyear said, along with multiple biting edges to help enhance traction on slippery surfaces and an optimized polymer blend and silica tread compound to help maintain flexibility in the cold.
The tire's directional tread pattern helps channel water away from the tread surface, Goodyear said, and a specially designed deep groove running around the tire's tread helps provide lateral grip. When braking, the saw-shaped center area of the tire helps push snow aside, while a variable-edged angle of the saw shape delivers enhanced snow traction and grip.
Goodyear said the Ultra Grip 8 Performance was developed in Europe, where the use of winter tires on high-performance vehicles is routine. The Ultra Grip 8 Performance is available in the North American market this winter in 11 sizes, for automobiles such as Audi A6, BMW 3-Series, Cadillac CTS, Lexus IS250, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and more.
Ultra Grip 8 Performance winter tires are marked with the Severe Snow Conditions Symbol (Mountain Snowflake Symbol), a designation from the Rubber Manufacturers Association and the Rubber Association of Canada, which distinguishes tires that meet certain performance criteria in winter condition testing.
