WASHINGTON—The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries is now seeking entries for its 2014 Design for Recycling Award.
ISRI gives the award, its highest honor, annually to the most outstanding contribution to products designed with recycling in mind, the institute said.
To be eligible for the Design for Recycling Award, ISRI said, a product must be designed or redesigned and manufactured to:
• Contain the maximum amount of recyclable materials;
• Be easily recycled through current or newly designed recycling processes;
• Be cost-effective, in that recycling costs don't exceed the value of the materials;
• Be free of hazardous materials that are not recyclable or that impede the recycling process;
• Minimize recycling times and costs;
• Reduces the use of raw materials by including recycled materials and/or components; and
• Have a net gain on the product's overall recyclability while reducing the overall negative impact on the environment.
Interested parties may enter online on the ISRI website until Feb. 14, ISRI said. The winner will be announced at the ISRI 2014 Convention and Exposition, scheduled for April 6-10 in Las Vegas.
