SACRAMENTO—California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed Assembly Bill 513, which establishes a grant program to help California cities, counties and regional agencies offset the cost of rubberized asphalt paving in road projects.
AB 513 requires the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, called CalRecycle, to award grants for rubberized asphalt projects of $2 for every 12 pounds of crumb rubber used. CalReycle may adjust the amount as necessary, the bill states. The bill's sunset date is June 30, 2019.
The California Senate passed AB 513 Sept. 11 by a 32-5 vote, and the state Assembly passed it 63-13 the same day. Gov. Brown signed the bill Oct. 3.
