GREENVILLE, S.C.—"Equipment Today" magazine has named the Michelin Tweel non-pneumatic tire/wheel one its Contractors' Top New Products for 2013.
Equipment Today—a monthly magazine published by Cygnus Business Media—determines its annual Top 50 list according to reader inquiries and user engagement on the publication's web site, forconstructionpros.com.
Nominees were determined based on reader inquiries on new products featured in the magazine over a 12-month period, along with page views and inquiries on the ForConstructionPros.com portal website, the magazine said.
The Tweel SSL was one of four products picked in the "Engines and Components" category.
"In today's competitive construction market, we are addressing the contractor's need for efficient and reliable mobility solutions," said Tim Fulton, head of Michelin Tweel Technologies, reacting to the award.
Michelin said the Tweel is a "highly advanced" airless tire that is being sold for use on skid steer loaders in the construction, landscaping, contracting, refuse/recycling and agricultural industries. Because the Tweel performs with traditional radial tire technology but requires no air, the risk of a flat or loss of air pressure is eliminated.
The Tweel previously received a 2013 Edison Award for innovation in the transportation category after being commercially launched in October 2012.
