WASHINGTON—Suzuki Motor of America Inc. is recalling 193,936 vehicles because of faulty passenger-side air bag sensors.
The vehicles are Grand Vitaras, model years 2006-11, and SX4s, model years 2007-11. The Occupant Classification System mat sensors in the front passenger seats of those vehicles may fail over time from repeated flexing, Suzuki told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In a crash necessitating air bag deployment, the passenger-side air bag will deploy in those vehicles, even if the occupant is a child, Suzuki said.
Suzuki said it will replace the front passenger seat cushion assemblies in those vehicles, which include the OCS mat sensors, free of charge. Currently the company doesn't have enough parts to replace the assemblies in all the vehicles, but it said it will notify owners in October when it expects to have the necessary parts.
