MECHANIC FALLS, Maine—Auburn Manufacturing Inc. has begun construction of a $1.4 million, 22,500-sq.-ft. expansion of its Kittyhawk factory in Auburn, Maine.
The company cited increased customer demand and a reliable forecast for that demand to continue as reasons for the expansion, which will double the size of the facility. AMI said the expansion will require hiring of a number of employees.
AMI CEO Kathie Leonard said the expansion will facilitate the company's current growth and provide the extra space needed for its continued focus on innovation. She cited areas of coatings, nanotechnologies and heat protection enhancements as focuses for innovation.
AMI said the expanded facility is expected to be fully operational in September of 2014.
The company produces textile products for hundreds of extreme temperature industrial applications throughout the world, including welding protection, industrial insulation, safety apparel, gaskets and seals.
