TOKYO—Overseas vehicle production by Japanese auto makers in the first quarter of calendar year 2013 totaled 4,197,494 units, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers' Association, an increase of 1.2 percent from the same quarter in the previous year. JAMA attributes this outcome to expanded local production worldwide, except in Europe, Africa, and tropical Pacific Ocean island region, during the quarter under review.
Fiscal year 2012, which ended March 31, 2013, saw a growth in local production in all regions worldwide except Europe, with the total output of 15,876,187 units that year, representing an increase of 14.9 percent over fiscal 2011.
