AKRON—Hygenic Corp. has released elastomeric tubing that it said is a customizable replacement for silicone or latex tubing.
Called Hyperform tubing, the thermoplastic polymer replicates some of the properties of natural rubber and silicone. It can be formulated to meet specific user requirements, and it is available in a variety of sizes and colors, including opaque and clear.
The company said it has been tested successfully to ISO 10993 standards for various medical applications.
The Hyperform tubing is made from a petrochemical material source, like synthetic rubber, but no curatives are required, with fewer extractables, according to Nancy Hunter, health care and specialty products product manager.
The company said the product is a viable alternative for institutions looking to limit the use of products containing latex. Hygenic develops, manufactures, sells and markets natural rubber latex, synthetic rubber and thermoplastic products.
