DA NANG, Vietnam—Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Co. has opened a radial truck tire plant in Da Nang's Lien Chieu Industrial Zone, with a capacity of 600,000 units a year.
Da Nang Rubber, majority owned by Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), invested $141 million over the past three years in the project, which includes equipment from suppliers in Italy, Netherlands and Germany, the company said. Employment will reach 1,000 at full capacity.
Company and local and national government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, inaugurated the plant at a ceremony on June 29.
Da Nang Rubber said the plant—the first radial truck tire factory in Vietnam—will contribute to growing the firm's sales to nearly $190 million. The company sells under the DRC brand name.
The plant covers 1.15 million square feet.
Da Nang Rubber was founded 35 years ago, taking over a U.S. military retreading plant in Da Nang. It produces bicycle, motorcycle, light, heavy and super-heavy truck and continues to retread tires as well, according to information posted on its website.
