MADRID, Spain—Evonik Industries A.G., a German polyurethanes additive company, has started construction at a plant in Essen, Germany, said Tammo Boinowitz, the company's senior vice president for its comfort and insulation businesses.
Speaking at the EuroPUR annual meeting in Madrid, he explained that the firm is investing "double digit millions of Euro" in the expansions there.
The expansions are to produce polyethers and silicone surfactants, but Boinowitz declined to give any capacity details.
Evonik also has been active in Singapore with the opening of a new technical service center there in mid-May, the company's fifth overall and second in Asia. It is designed to serve non-China customers.
Singapore was chosen for its good location and supply of well-educated technicians, the company said. Demand for Evonik's products is strong in the Far East, and this new center is designed to help Evonik meet local customers' needs efficiently, Boinowitz said.
