Mold making and tooling design have been around for more than 100 years, and we, as tool makers and manufacturers, have come a long way. Especially in the last 50 years. The molds we build and the parts we make are increasingly complex and “different” than what we used to make. As energy prices increase and our awareness of energy consumption broadens, as an industry we will reduce our footprint. Virtual injection molding technology for rubber will support this goal. This technology opens up every detail of the entire (virtual) mold and process while it is in (virtual) production to engineering scrutiny. Like a flight simulator for a pilot, molders now have a production simulator for molded rubber products. The virtual mold and process can be evaluated and optimized before the mold is ever built.
