ST. PAUL, Minn.—H.B. Fuller Co. has agreed to purchase Plexbond Quimica S.A., an adhesives company that specializes in chemical polyurethane and polyester resins.
According to H.B. Fuller, Plexbond generated nearly $20 million in revenue in fiscal 2012. It operates a manufacturing facility in Curitiba, Brazil, enabling H.B. Fuller to serve customers in that country as well as across South America.
H.B. Fuller, which focuses on adhesives, sealants and other specialty chemical products, said it is interested in leveraging Plexbond Quimica's existing technologies, particularly in the flexible packaging industry.
"H.B. Fuller has a strategic focus on three core areas—packaging, hygiene and durable assembly—and the Plexbond Quimica business will bring us capabilities that we can leverage globally in the important packaging market," said Jim Owens, president and CEO of H.B. Fuller. "The Plexbond Quimica team has deep market knowledge and local manufacturing capabilities that are new to H.B. Fuller, and the enhanced product portfolio and expertise of our combined businesses will enable H.B. Fuller to partner more closely with customers and to grow in South America and around the globe."
