BOSTON—Cabot Corp. has opened a plastics applications development facility in Shanghai.
Polymer demand in Asia is expected to double by 2016, Cabot said, citing a study by Applied Marketing Information Ltd. Cabot will be able to respond to the customer demand and initiate new products at the site, according to Fei Deng, Cabot vice president, Performance Materials, Asia Pacific.
The Shanghai facility contains equipment that will enable Cabot to test and develop customer applications, including agricultural film and irrigation pipe, gas and water pressure pipe, wire and cable jacketing, extrusion, molding and compounding, as well as conductive products for electrostatic discharge protection.
Carbon black maker Cabot has applications laboratories in Europe and the U.S.
