ISELIN, N.J.—Ansell Ltd. plans to purchase Hercules Equipamentos de Protecao Ltda. of Brazil for about $77 million to expand its personal protective equipment production operation.
Hercules is a leading manufacturer of a variety of personal protection production products—including gear for the military and first responders along with gloves—with a plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil, that employs about 350. It has annual sales in the $30 million range.
The deal is expected to close by the end of December or early January.
The acquisition enables Ansell "to better serve strategic verticals (construction, military and first responders, mining, and oil and gas) and at the same time strengthens our presence in one of the world's major emerging markets," according to Magnus Nicolin, CEO and managing director of Ansell.
