OSAKA, Japan—Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. has changed the name of its tire manufacturing company in Malaysia to Toyo Tire Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. in order to designate it as a marketing and manufacturing company.
The operation, which is overseeing the construction of Toyo's first tire plant in Malaysia, previously was called Toyo Tyre Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
Toyo is investing $260 million to build a car and light truck tire plant in Perak, Malaysia, adjacent to the Silverstone Bhd. plant it acquired in early 2011.
The new plant is slated to be operational by April 2013 with a nameplate annual capacity of 10 million units. Production will start at about 2.5 million units a year in the first few years, double to 5 million units a year by 2016 and double again as demand requires, Toyo said.
