SUNDBYBERG, Sweden—Swedish tire importers don't check the levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon oils in the tires they sell, according to a survey by KEMI, the Swedish chemicals agency.
During the summer and autumn of 2012, the Swedish Chemicals Agency inspected 30 companies in Sweden that import passenger tires, asking them to describe how they ensure the tires don't contain PAH oils at prohibited levels.
KEMI said the extent and quality of their reports varied significantly. Many importers asked for documentation of test analysis from their suppliers, and none of the companies did any tests on their own.
