STOCKHOLM, Sweden—A Swedish court has ruled that Nokian Tyres Ltd. may not use its winter ice and snow tire label, and may be fined.
The court action, brought by a complaint from Michelin Nordic A.B., concerns a Nokian label giving an ice and snow rating for the Nokian tire. The label mimics the style of the new European tire label that gives information on wet grip, rolling resistance and pass-by nose.
The complaint argued that the label is not backed by agreed, standardized tests. Michelin Nordic suggested a penalty of as much as $342,000 be assessed Nokian.
Finland's Nokian already has withdrawn the label from use.
