AKRON (Nov. 9, 2012)—Goodyear recently earned a place in G.I. Jobs magazine´s 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list, appearing at the No. 77 spot.
The Akron-based company, which was the only tire maker to make the list, earned the designation for its ongoing efforts to hire and support military veteran employees. This marks the first year the company has been included in the list, which is compiled annually from a data-driven survey sample of 5,000 companies with annual revenues exceeding $500 million, Goodyear said.
In order to qualify for the list, companies must meet criteria relating to the strength of their military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs and policies for National Guard and Reserve members.
Goodyear was chosen based on its support of U.S. military veterans and National Guard and Reserve members along with its plans to hire 1,000 veterans over the next three years, an initiative the company announced in July.
"Goodyear has a longstanding relationship with the U.S. military, and we´re dedicated to providing a great workplace for the men and women who´ve proudly served our country," said Steve McClellan, president of Goodyear´s North American Tire unit. "It´s a great honor to have our efforts recognized by G.I. Jobs and to be named a Top 100 Military Friendly Employer."
