CHARLES CITY, Iowa (Oct. 23, 2012)—Czech tire maker Mitas A.S. has shipped the 100th truckload of radial farm tires made at its Charles City plant.
While the bulk of the tires are intended for American farmers, Pavel Charvat, president of Mitas Tires North America Inc., said some of the shipments have been exported, including two containers that were delivered recently to customers in Russia.
"Mitas continues installing additional tire-building machines and curing presses," Charvat said, noting that the plant should hit its full planned production capacity of 13,500 metric tons of tires a year by mid-2013.
Mitas hit another milestone recently, Charvat said, as employment hit 150. The plant should have 237 full-time employees by next summer, he added.
Mitas also has been busy settling into the Charles City community. Over the summer, the company presented an undisclosed contribution to the Community Foundation, the team volunteered at the Fourth of July parade and hosted a street party in August.
