BERWYN, Pa. (Oct. 23, 2012)—Ametek Inc. has purchased Micro-Poise Measurement Systems for about $170 million in cash, according to Ametek.
Micro-Poise, a maker of integrated test and measurement solutions for the tire industry, previously was owned by private equity firm American Industrial Partners.
“Micro-Poise is a great addition to Ametek. It has an excellent reputation within the industry and is the clear global leader in this niche, highly differentiated market,” said Frank S. Hermance, Ametek chairman and CEO. “This acquisition further broadens our position in the highly attractive materials test and measurement equipment market and makes us a leader in a growing industry segment.”
Streetsboro, Ohio-based Micro-Poise has manufacturing facilities in Troy, Mich.; Beijing; and Lubeck, Germany. Micro-Poise specializes in uniformity machines, dynamic balancers and geometry measurement systems in the passenger and medium truck radial tire sectors. It said sales for 2012 will be an estimated $125 million.
Hermance said Micro-Poise is well-positioned to take advantage of growth opportunities in both developed and emerging markets for more sophisticated test and measurement techniques.
The firm will become part of Ametek's Electronic Instruments Group.
