WASHINGTON (Oct. 10, 2012)—Yokohama Tire Corp. is recalling 10,669 AVID Touring S tires, size 215/65R 16 98T SL, because of possible sidewall cracks.
The tires were manufactured at Yokohama's plant in Salem, Va., between February and April 2009, the company told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A small number of the tires may have irregular geometry in the casing turn-up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall, Yokohama said. This irregular geometry can result in lower sidewall cracks and loss of air pressure, it said.
Yokohama will start notifying tire owners of the recall on or about Oct. 20, NHTSA said.
