CINCINNATI (Oct. 10, 2012)—The ACS Rubber Division announced four people who will receive awards at next year's spring meeting in Akron. The winners, announced during the International Rubber Expo, included:
—William Hergenrother, a research fellow for Bridgestone Americas, who will receive the Melvin Mooney Award, honoring someone who has exhibited exceptional technical competency by making significant and repeated contributions to rubber science technology;
—Ali Dhinojwala, a professor at the University of Akron in the Department of Polymer Science, who will receive the George S. Whitby Award, which is given to “outstanding international teachers of chemistry and polymer science;”
—Wilma Dierkes, an associate professor at the University of Twente in the Netherlands and a part-time professor at Tampere Technical University in Finland, who will receive the Sparks-Thomas Award for outstanding contributions by younger scientists, technologists and engineers; and
—Stuart Cooper, chair of the Ohio State University Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, who is the winner of the Chemistry of Thermoplastics Award, given for contributions to the advancement of chemistry of TPEs.
