AKRON (Sept. 24, 2012)—Goodyear said it is giving 10 percent of its Gadsden, Ala., tire plant staff two weeks off and another 14 percent one week without work in what it terms a production schedule adjustment.
“These aren't layoffs; these are just changes to our production schedule for a two-week period,” a Goodyear spokesman said.
“Goodyear's goal is to make the right tires at the right time for our customers and consumers and not pursue volume for volume's sake,” he said. “As previously announced, we are reducing production on tires that do not align with our successful strategy of targeted market segments.”
The adjustment period runs from 1 p.m. Sept. 29 to 1 a.m. Oct. 14, according to the spokesman.
He said 157 personnel at the Gadsden factory won't be scheduled to work during the full two-week period, while an additional 231 workers will work one week during the production period.
