EPE, Netherlands (Sept. 7, 2012)—J.J. “Coos” Spanjer, former president of VMI Group, died Sept. 4 at the age of 68.
Spanjer joined the machinery maker in 1990 and became CEO in 1992, a post he held for 18 years. During his tenure, VMI developed into a leading machinery supplier to the global rubber and tire industry, according to Harm J. Voortman, current VMI president and CEO.
Spanjer resigned in 2010 to become CEO of the Industrial Manufacturing Division of TKH Group, parent of VMI.
“With his intelligence, unbridled energy and enormous ambition, Coos Spanjer left an unforgettable impression with employees, customers, suppliers and other business partners,” Voortman said. “Today's VMI is grateful for the many years in which Mr. Spanjer was leading the company, in the Netherlands and at our foreign subsidiaries.”
