AKRON (Aug. 15, 2012)—Marion Pottinger will receive the Harold Herzlich Distinguished Technology Achievement Medal in Cleveland Sept. 19 during the International Tire Exhibition & Conference.
The honor recognizes a recipient for contributions in research in tire construction, tread design and manufacturing, coupled with engineering and materials innovations that significantly have contributed to the betterment of society, safety of transportation and global tire technology.
The award has been renamed for Harold Herzlich, who has been ITEC conference chairman since 1994. ITEC is presented by Rubber & Plastics News and Tire Business.
Previous winners of the award were Maurizio Boiocchi of Pirelli Tyre S.p.A. and William J. VanOoij, retired from the University of Cincinnati.
“Dr. Pottinger, a professional engineer and owner of M'gineering L.L.C., has worked in almost every area of tire mechanics including rolling resistance,” Herzlich said. “He is best known for his work with respect to tire force and moment properties and the mechanics of the tire footprint with application to wear.”
Pottinger has demonstrated professionalism, supports many technical organizations and contributed chapters to the highly regarded peer reviewed NHTSA/University of Akron publication, the Pneumatic Tire, Herzlich said.
Pottinger will receive the award at a special ceremony during the trade show and technical conference at the IX Center in Cleveland.
