AKRON (Aug. 14, 2012)—World Racing Group, organizer of the World of Outlaws Spring Car Series, is looking for a new race tire supplier for next season and beyond after disclosing its race tire contract with Goodyear will expire at the end of the 2012 season.
Goodyear has been the series' contracted race tire supplier for the past three seasons.
Ben Geisler, chief marketing officer for the World of Outlaws, lauded Goodyear as a “tremendous supporter of sprint car racing both financially and in terms of product development,” but added the parties agreed “it is in our best interest to pursue other opportunities for the 2013 season and beyond.”
Word of the Goodyear development comes just days after World Racing Group disclosed Armored AutoGroup Inc.'s STP brand will become the series title sponsor. Starting next year the racing will be known as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.
Armored AutoGroup called World of Outlaws a “perfect fit to showcase STP to the dedicated fans that follow the premier sprint car series in the world.”
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series was founded in 1978. It stages 82 races across 24 states and three Canadian provinces annually.
