PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (Aug. 6, 2012)—Continental Tyre South Africa has brought on stream a mixer line at its Port Elizabeth manufacturing facility.
The company said the mixer represents a $13.3 million investment. Conti said the mixer will help with first stage mixing of silica and carbon black. It was imported from Germany and installed over a period of five months.
“The primary advantage of the new mixer is that it allows much better temperature control during the mixing cycle, which leads to more accurate reproducibility of compounds as well as better dispersion of the fillers,” the company said.
The new mixer, called Mixer 1 is dedicated to an employee, the late David John Laine, who has worked in mixing for 46 years, but was murdered about two months ago. “He was a loyal employee and was respected by all his fellow workers,” said a spokesman for Conti SA.
